Samurai Warriors 2
What i think... on October 08, 2006
Samurai Warriors 2 was released in Japan in February 2006 by Koei. All the fans of Samurai Warriors 1 think: yay another sequel to an awesome series. I say that idea is wrong. This series is starting to look like Dynasty Warriors as Koei seems to be attempting to milk money out of this franchise. In this game Koei just basically did what they always did: add more stuff to the game. It is given that there are more people, stages and modes. However in Samurai Warriors 2 there are no more items just weapons and horse can be equipped. Also in this games you don't chose your skills, they just assign it to you. Now on to the story line. The story is set in feudal Japan during the Sengoku era after the reign of the Ashikaga shogunats fell. This warring era took place from the mid 15th century to the 17th century when in the end the Tokugawa shogunats unified Japan from Toyotomi's rule.
Game Play: The controls are the same as for any other Dynasty/ Samurai Warriors game. The circle button being for super, the X button for being for jump and mounting on a horse, the square button for attacking, and the triangle button for making charge attacks or stronger attacks. In the game you can no longer shoot arrows any more, instead each person has a special move they have like for example Yukimura can summon a horse at any time of the battle field.
Music: Koei once again went for calm feudal Japan type of music for this game.
Extras: Koei added a Monopoly game to Samurai Warriors 2. this mini game can be played with a multi tap which means the max people able to play would be four. All you do in the Monopoly game is buy territories and try to make others lose all their gold. Sometimes you challenge a person (or computer) their territory in which both players are sent to one of the mini game's challenges. Some of the challenges are like: who can kill the most people in X amount of time, who can collect the most gold in X amount of time and etc.
This should only be bought if A: you really like Koei games, B: you like Japanese history, or C: you never played any of Koei's games. If you have played any other Koei game before then you are not missing much if you don't pick up this game.
