Gun
Nice looking game with some interesting gameplay. on January 04, 2007
Gun is a nice overall game. There is a nice selection of old-west weaponry (ranging from a tomahawk to a gatling gun). The use of horses for transportation provides some interesting gameplay (you'll end up on foot If you ride your horse too hard or let it take too many hits in a fight).
Comparisons have been made between Gun and GTA. In some regards those comparisons are valid. However, I think that the old west setting of Gun gives it quite a different feel from GTA.
The world in Gun is not nearly as extensive as the GTA worlds. The landscapes are, however, beautiful. There is also some nice variety to the areas, which I enjoyed.
The side missions are another area where Gun differs greatly from GTA. The side missions in Gun are much more interesting (in my opinion). Where GTA has Vigilante Missions, Gun has missions where you go after someone featured on a Wanted Poster. Some targets must be captured alive, some are only wanted dead, and others give you the option (although delivering the target alive results in a higher reward). I am also a big fan of the Poker Tournaments that you can play in. The level of competition is not that great, but they can be a nice change of pace.
The one complaint I have with Gun is that it is much too short. If not playing the side missions, it would be possible to play through in maybe 4 to 6 hours, especially on the normal or easy dificulty levels. While there is some decent replay value, I doubt that most people spend more than a week or two playing the game. I highly recommend it as a rental, or as a purchase if you can pick it up cheap.
